Green myrtle. Fresher growth.

Our Story

Myrtle is the gentlest of the clean, clearing oils. We cut fresher growth from Mediterranean hillsides and distil it here.

Cut From New Growth

Myrtus communis is an evergreen shrub of the Mediterranean, found on hillsides from Corsica across to Morocco, with small glossy leaves and white flowers.

We take leaf and twig from newer growth. That is what separates a bright green myrtle from the heavier material sold when a supplier is simply clearing a hedge.

The plants grow on dry stony ground where little else thrives, which concentrates the aromatics in the leaf rather than pushing the plant into soft, sappy growth.

The Clean Oil That Does Not Shout

Myrtle occupies useful ground: the clarity of a eucalyptus without the bracing edge that makes some people leave the room.

That softness comes from a gentler constituent balance, and it makes myrtle the sensible pick for anyone who finds cajeput or blue gum too much. It also makes it far more pleasant in perfumery, where its faintly honeyed floral facets do real work.

Green myrtle, the type we favour, comes from fresher growth and carries the brighter profile. Older, woodier material gives a duller oil, and the difference is decided in the field long before it reaches a still.

From Hillside To Our Still

Nothing arrives here as oil. We buy cut material and take responsibility for everything that happens to it afterwards.

Steam is passed through the packed leaf and twig until they give nothing further. What separates is clear and fresh with that soft eucalyptus-like coolness rounded by sweetness.

The run is judged by the material rather than by a timer, so there is no hour count for us to quote.

Chemotype Confirmed

Independent analysis placing every batch as green myrtle.

No Eucalyptus Added

Single species, full strength, nothing bulked in.

Small Or Wholesale

Every size drawn from the same distillation run.

Dated and Amber

Both dates and the lot number, printed so age is never a guess.

Profile Checked Independently

Every batch is sent to a third-party laboratory that has no commercial relationship with us.

1,8-cineole and myrtenyl acetate

Together these place the oil as green myrtle rather than a heavier chemotype.

Limonene and linalool

The lighter facets that give myrtle its sweetness and keep it from turning harsh.

Identity and purity

Confirms Myrtus communis at full strength, without eucalyptus blended in to bulk it.

Gentle, Within Reason

No therapeutic promises are made for myrtle here. It is a clean, clearing aromatic and that is how we describe it.

For skin work take it right down in a base oil, then spot-check before anything wider. Myrtle is among the gentler oils in this family, which makes it easy to overuse rather than genuinely risk-free.

Keep it cool and dark, and mind the still date. A batch that does not analyse as green myrtle stays out of the bottles and we go short instead.

The Softer Clean Note

Organic Mediterranean leaf and twig from newer growth, distilled here, with the green myrtle profile confirmed by an outside laboratory.
